Amateur footballer Ewen Moir is contemplating suing the NHS Highland for amputating his leg after doctors did not notice he had bone cancer in his knee. It is understood that Mr Moir could have kept his leg if doctors had noticed the cancer sooner.
Mr Moir, 32 or Garve in Scotland, has been told that he could have had limb-saving surgery had the tumour been diagnosed earlier. He said his complaints about knee pain were disregarded for months before the cancer was eventually discovered. Initially his knee was injured during his debut match for amateur team Dyno-Rod in the Inverness Amateur League.
He has now received an apology from NHS Highland and is considering making a claim for compensation.
Mr Moir has been given a prosthetic leg, but finds it uncomfortable to wear for any longer than 20 minutes so manages most of the time on crutches. He claimed limb-saving surgery could have been attempted had the tumour been identified earlier.
